Scareware List for July 31, 2009

By Paul | Jul 31, 2009

Antivirussystempro1

Looks like they went out and made a quite a few domains lately so Here they are:

  • antivirus-live-pro.org (Antivirus Pro Scareware)
  • internetantivirusplus.com (Fake Antivirus)
  • mybestantivirusplus.com
  • securesoftwarebill.com (Rogue System Security Antivirus)
  • yourantimalware.com
  • totalsurfguard.com
  • systemsecuritysupport.com
  • stabilitysuite.com
  • powersystemstability.com
  • onlinecentersupport.net
  • identitysecuritysuite.com
  • etotalsecurity.com
  • defenseinteractive.com
  • defenseinteractive.com
  • antispyinteractive.com
  • antispyavailable.com
  • protectionsystem.org(Like Antivirus Pro Scareware)
  • realbestantivirusplus.com

Remember these sites are active and are scaring people into buying or installing there product, you should not go to these sites. As you can see the Scareware Writers and domains have been busy this week and have made these to use in this weekend I can bet on that.   These sites are trying to scare you into buying there product or installing there fake antivirus software.    If you are constantly inundated with pop up windows warning you have a virus or trojan and showing you a load of viruses or trojans on your screen. They will probably ask you to install software or buy the product that would be a big waste of time and could possibly install even more malware and also could loose money. You should never download any software from sites you don’t know or buy from sites that you’ve never heard from.

Malware sites for July 30, 2009

By Paul | Jul 30, 2009

I just got some news about a few sites:

personalantivirus3

These sites are either claiming you have a virus and are considered either URL Redirects or URL Hijackers.   If these sites keep appearing on your web browsing maybe it is time to do a complete system scan and get that spyware off your system.   Some of these Rogue Antiviruses  may even have a security adviser claiming random sites are infected with viruses or Trojans and claiming they are unsafe.  These sites are either wanting you to isntall the software or trying to sell you the fake product, which will do nothing but harm your system.

  • rundaqimao.com
  • shuncheng2car.com
  • dakbesy.cn

All these sites are scaring users into installing software that does nothing but bothers the users into registering this software. Why website should Hide their Affiliate links

By Paul | Jul 28, 2009

Yes you heard me right, lately I’ve been trying to figure out why some of my click were not used in my links. So I went to Google to find the answer. I found the answer to some of this. According to some other websites 40% of affiliate links are stolen or switched with spammers and scammer who are trying to make money. You see the virus writers have been trying to make money with there Fake Antivirus software and they will do anything to earn money. I have also though about how people would boost they have made Millions from Affiliate links and that is where this stilling would happen.

How to make your Affiliate links look like they come from your site:

I decided the easiest way to prevent link theft is create a directory called “go” and then used the program Profit Protector to encrypt and hide my affiliate links.  Then all you have to do is upload the created html file to the “go” directory. for Example:

http://www.affiliatesite.com/product.html?affid=1234

changes to

http://www.mysite.com/go/affiliatesite.html

Now all you have to do is change all your links like the example above and you would use the “http://www.mysite.com/go/affiliatesite.html” for your active link.  This would help reduce programs from stealing your affiliate links with there own.

Computer Security : important caveat not all websites are safe

By Paul | Jul 27, 2009

Everyday we’ve seen people get infections on there systems and most don’t understand that they’ve been duped and have installed the software themselves.

In this article we will talk about how most people will willingly install these Trojans and virus themselves for several different reasons.

ineluctable truth about Human Nature

These malware authors know all about how people think.    It usually happens when people think they are seeing something provocative and something you can watch in your private homes.   There are several different ways to do this:

  • News stories –  Alas this is always being used to spread malware.   For example Erin Andrews Peephole malware.
  • Fake photos files — This is also a very common ploy, to make people think it is a Photo but in reality it is an Executable.  Example : MichealJackson.JPG.EXE
  • Fake Codecs — You visit what you think is a popular movie and it says you need to install a codec.  This is another way for people to get infected with a Trojan, or a Virus.   For example : Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince malware.

List of fake Antivirus Sites for July 27, 2009

By Paul | Jul 27, 2009

I have found some other sites that are fake Antivirus:

personalantivirus3

Most of these sites try to scare you into either installing software or buying their fake software.   Some of these sites have used exploits to install a Trojan or two to have your browser redirect to these sites.   This means that there might be more than one virus or Trojan on your system

Fake Security Adviser from explorersecurityhelper.com

By Paul | Jul 26, 2009

I saw this come in my way and I thought I would share it:

fakeexplorersecurityhelper

Here is a site that is another scareware attempt from the makers of Personal Antivirus.   They do this to get money from unsuspecting users who think this will protect there system but the truth of the matter, they are either trying to get you to install even more Malware or buy a program that doesn’t do what it claims.   You should never buy from a site you do not know anything about and you should never install software from a site you have no knowledge of

List of Malware Sites for July 26, 2009

By Paul | Jul 26, 2009

personalantivirus3

These malware authors have been busy and made a few new sites to scam people here they are, Remember these sites are active and should be avoided:

  • protectionsystemlab.com ( Scareware Protection System)
  • secure-antivirus-scanv3.com (Personal Antivirus Scareware)
  • scanonlinedirect.com

These sites listed try to get you to download a program sometimes called install.exe, Setup.exe, and are most likely just a way to get you even more infected with malware.  Other sites want to you upgrade which means you probably have some kinda of malware on your system to begin with.   These sites are what I call scareware and will always try to scare you into either buying or installing software.   These sites don’t do anything else but try to make money or get your system infected for them to use.  A couple of these sites require you to quit out of your browser by going to your Taskmanager.   These fake antivirus softwares don’t really protect your system at all but only to annoy the end user into giving these guys a free ride. Two of the sites are now redirecting to Adult Friend Finder, but still should be avoided because of the possibility of an exploit code trying to take over you computer.

Updated list of scareware Sites 7/24/09

By Paul | Jul 24, 2009

As you have read in my Previous post:

I figured we would update those list with some more that came out yesterday or Wednesday.   I will probably be keeping this up. This will help people find out domains that should be avoided.

personalantivirus3

So here are a few that I’ve found:

  1. personalfolderscanv2.com
  2. onlineantispywarescanv6.com
  3. onlinevirusscanv9.com
  4. privatevirusscannerv2.com
  5. Windowssecurityinfo.com

All those are Personal Antivirus scareware sites that try to convince you that you have a virus and tries to get you to buy a registered copy of this fake Antivirus which does nothing.  They make money by not doing anything.  These sites might also try to get you to install the fake software which in reality is a Trojan, Virus, Or just Malware all together.  You should never install software from sites you don’t know anything about.

Computer Security : How not to get Infected.

By Paul | Jul 24, 2009

In my previous blog post we talked about how the computer would get infected with Malware. Now on this blog post we will discuss how you can prevent most to all of these from ever happening again on your system.

Now let’s face it we are more and more going to be on the internet.   This is almost a necessity for a business or individuals.  You see Businesses have built there product around the internet and that is why it is necessary to be on the internet.

What program not to use to Surf the web

You should consider getting away from Internet Explorer,  I don’t say this lightly.   It may take Microsoft Months to fix a hole in something that involves ActiveX or Something like that.  We know how Microsoft will only push out the really big security holes out of Cycle but keep the minor ones in Cycle.   Hackers have jumped on exploits before when it comes Internet Explorer and use them on Black Wednesday, not less than 24 hours after the patches have been released.

Although these examples I showing doesn’t mean that they haven’t been fixed they are showing you how long it takes sometimes to fix them.

Fighting ‘Scareware’ with a brand new list!

By Paul | Jul 22, 2009

I just got informed today that the list of that we talked about a few day ago has been updated with more vendors:

CCSSParticpiation-new

As you can see there have been a number of new Antivirus programs that have been added.   Some the ones that I like have been AVGSuperANTISpyware, A-Squared on a USB Stick,  and Malwarebytes.  As you can see once that one Techworld was published Several new Vendors came forward and wanted to get involved.   This is a great step for fighting Scareware because now we can have a list for people to go to for verification.   I hope we keep those fake Antivirus writers from defrauding innocent people out of there money.

More Fake Antivirus Sites pop up

By Paul | Jul 22, 2009

So in my last post, I talked about How you get a computer Virus. Here I will talk about some of the common websites that are host to all those Fake Antivirus:

Homeantivirusfake

As you can see there are at least two sites that try to get you to install a fake Antivirus Software that is really malware.   I am sure the other 3 are doing something similar but might be blocking access to certain website with a fake site adviser doing the dirty work.

I also recommend checking out my Antivirus Page and finding other good Antivirus Software to help battle malware.

Computer Security : How you get infected with Malware?

By Paul | Jul 22, 2009

I have had several people how they get infected in the past few weeks and I have scoured the internet to try to come up with some answers.   There are several ways to get infected and we will discuss them all here.   In case someone wants to get a better idea on how to avoid these commons ways of infections

What is an Exploit?

This by nature is the first thing we need to discuss because exploits are most common with Malware due to the fact that they like to use them to gain control over an Application or computer.

An Exploit is a piece of software, a chunk of data, or sequence of commands that take advantage of a bug, glitch or vulnerability in order to cause unintended or unanticipated behavior to occur on computer software, hardware, or something electronic (usually computerized). This frequently includes such things as violently gaining control of a computer system or allowing privilege escalation or a denial of service attack.

Don’t take it personal, It’s just a Fake Antivirus

By Paul | Jul 20, 2009

So We come back to a few more examples of Personal Antivirus Scareware sites:

personalantivirus3

So I say don’t take it personal because you probably have those scareware pop ups saying you have a virus. If that is the case paying these fake Antivirus gangs money will not protect your computer. Here are a list of Sites that are Rogue Antivirus:

I call these sites Scareware because there is usually some warning or popup saying you have a virus or a trojan, or even saying something like system alert. You will usually see something like a shield or eve times when the Rogue Antivirus will load up there fake page.  Be sure to check out some of my Antivirus Suggestions and decide for yourself.

Remember these fake sites only thrive when you let them.

How Fake Antivirus writers try to fool you

By Paul | Jul 19, 2009

I went looking around and saw this:

Homeantivirusfake

As you can see they try to make this site look like it is real. It also make the user at first glance become relaxed because of all PC Magazines and site stickers as I call them.   You also get to see a list of  latest virus alerts and threats, all of this is done to make you feel like this is a real Antivirus site.   They also have the box look like Windows Vista and Windows 7 look and feel to it.  Everything you see here makes you more relaxed and almost gets you to buy the software but wait, I want to know more about this company.   No way to call or who they are?  So I download the file call “Installer2.exe” and AVG pops up with:

Homeantivirusfake1

Not even AVG had the chance to say or do anything about this before Microsoft throws up this warning about it being a “Trojandownloader:win32/fakerean.gen!c”, I have got to admit Microsoft has been doing a little better job of identifying some of the threats.  Sites that all have this type of theme to them are:

More Personal Antivirus Fake or Scareware Sites

By Paul | Jul 18, 2009

As I am Looking through some sites I find out about:
personalantivirus3

As you know Personal Antivirus is Scareware and is not a real Antivirus Software like the ones I have on my website.  This tries to scare you into buying there fake software then does nothing to protect the user.

The Following Sites have been identified to be Associated with Personal Antivirus:

  • totalvirusscanc3.com
  • antivirusbestscanv5.com
  • liveantivirusinfov2.com
  • proantispywarescanv3.com

And All of these are ready to be used and probably will be used in the next coming weeks.  If you feel you have one of these scarewares on your computer I recommend downloading SUPERAntiSpyware and remove this this scareware from you system..

RECOMMENDATION :

Misconceptions of Affiliate Marketing

By Paul | Jul 16, 2009

Earlier today I was chatting with Mike Smith, from Miketechshow.com. Mike was saying how unreliable it is to have links being displayed on his site. He also talked about how he wasn’t making a lot from those links. He also talked about wanting a sponsor and not affiliates.  I say if he could affiliate market on his podcast he’d start earning money.   So I figured I would offer some great tips to get the Click through conversion rates that work for me:

  • Cater to Your Nich market — If you don’t know you audience how can you know what they are looking for.   Having a site for famous Gossip could cater to Clothes and Jewerly.  This is the first thing you ned to do to start making some kind of money from affiliate marketing.
  • Keep reminding your Audience about your Market — Like Me I keep reminding people about all those good Anti-virus software that can be valuable.  To get people to click on your link you sometimes have to remind them that it is there.   This helps get a residue income from your niche audience.

Fighting ‘Scareware’ One List at a time

By Paul | Jul 16, 2009

Techworld has published an article that describes how the AV Vendors are compiling a Whitelist of AV Vendors who are really trying to keep there users safe and not trying to ‘Scare‘ the user into buying a rogue look a like.  They’ve published a Preliminary set of real Antivirus Softwares along with there Company:

CCSSParticpiation

As you can see there are at least to that are not listed.  I’ve contacted SUPERAntiSpyware about this and they turned right around and started to ask to be added and should be Added in the coming months.   The other is Malwarebytes and I am hoping they jump aboard and get in contact with this forum.

The Guys over at SUPERAntiSpyware were really grateful that I came across this.   This list will soon help fight the SCAREWARE Tactics of the Cyber Criminals.   Truth of the matter is educating oneself and doing a little bit of research can help you determine if the program or company is real or just another rogue company out there.   If your looking for some good Antivirus Software check out my Antivirus Page and see some of the FREE Antivirus Software out there that can help protect your system.

Personal Antivirus Stash of Sites!! All Scareware

By Paul | Jul 14, 2009

I went exploring and found some sites that are linked back to each other and here are a few sites that have the same “Personal Antivirus” scareware that do the same thing.  These are all just waiting to be used for the purpose of selling you the fake stuff.

personalantivirus3

Sites that are on this IP BLOCK (83.133.123.109) and are exactly the same:

Sites with the Site advisers are:

And are all active and just waiting to start selling this fake scare at moments notice each one looks like either have or will be used in the future to host the content waiting for people to buy this fake product.  You should check out the other articles in this series and be ready for them when they become active.

It is time to install some real Antivirus Software and get these fakes off your system if your infected if not it is still a good idea to have them installed.    I would recommend SUPERAntiSpyware to help get rid of these infections if you have them or Keep yoru system from getting these infections.

Another Scareware Adviser Site : browsersecurityinfo.com

By Paul | Jul 14, 2009

It looks like “Personal Antivirus” Scareware has another Scareware adviser on the same iP: “83.133.123.113″

browsersecurityinfocom1

It is Hosted on “http://browsersecurityinfo.com/” and Does the same thing the other Scareware Adviser does and sponsors “http://ieprotectionlist.com/1/”  Which is also Personal Antivirus Scareware site that is host to a few dozen places on other sites.

These Sites try to look like legitimate sites and make you believe these are real but My Advise is that you run SUPERAntiSpyware and Remove these scareware virus and other Trojans on your system.  These do nothing but slow your system down and stop you from using the system.  Some of these Fake Antiviruses have also been known to not allow you to use real antivirus software so you may have to do it from safe mode.

If you need help removing these spyware manually you can check this article to remove it manually.   Please check out my Malware resources to better help you protect your system in the future.   I have a few recommendations on my Malware resources to help remove these viruses, trojans, and Malware off your system.

Antispy.microsoft.com is another Scareware

By Paul | Jul 14, 2009

It looks like the people who invented “Antivirus System Pro” have made another site looking like it was a Microsoft site:

Antivirussystempro1

It looks like they use hijack your host file and inseart “Antispy.Microsoft.com” to the host file  with the IP address of “209.44.111.62″  There is no real website at Microsoft with that url so if you get this you have a some kind of trojan or virus on your system.   By using the domain name of Microsoft.com the chance that people will believe this is actually from Microsoft and buy this fake software is higher than with it having its own domain.

They seem to have incorporated the Site Adviser Scareware tactics these tactics seem to be a new way for them to look Official almost like they are the read deal and should there for be taken for the REAL Thing.   You should Download SUPERAntiSpyware and See if you can find the problem.   If that doesn’t work you can always remove this threat manually.

SUPERAntiSpyware My Review

By Paul | Jul 13, 2009

Ok I have been using SUPERAntiSpyware for quite some time, I used the free version for about a year now.  Ever since I found a link on Computer America website.   Now let’s face it, in Anti-Virus software there are many different ones.   I talked about Malwarebytes a few days ago now I want to talk about why you Should Buy SUPERAntiSpyware Pro.

Now let’s be fair about this, I was given a free lifetime version of the Pro version from Mike Duncan begin_of_the_skype_highlighting     end_of_the_skype_highlighting the Director of Business Development.  So I might be a little Biased but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t suggest to anyone who isn’t looking for a cheap alternative to buy a Anti-virus Software.

So with that said now we can talk about it a little more.  The Free Version is great don’t get me wrong but there are some key differences from the Free to the Pro Version.  Some of the things that I think are the most crucial points  for buying SUPERAntivirus Pro are:

  • System Diagnostics — Lets face it there are more and more virus, Trojans, and Malware being created each day and being used.  This is a great way to explore your system in even more details and find those really hidden viruses.

Why you can’t run Antivirus or Taskmanager!

By Paul | Jul 12, 2009

As you know there has been more and more virus writers and scammers who don’t want you to interfere with the ultimate plan.   You see the two major plans these people have are:

  1. To use your computer as a Botnet –  This is most common because the Command and Control server is where they tell these other computers what to do weather send spam or do a denial of Service attack on a website.  Although this is the most common it isn’t however the easiest to get rid of rid.   Far be it from being easy these virus writers want to keep a foot hold on your system.   This is like the SG-1 the “Foothold” Situation, they try to look like there is nothing wrong.
  2. Fake Antivirus software — This is the other common reason why you can’t load up Taskmanager or SUPERantispyware/Malwarebytes.   It could even prevent AVG,  Norton Antivirus, and Other Antivirus software from being loaded at boot up.  Because most Antivirus software can detect this type of scareware.   The scammers want to make as much money as they can so they don’t want the End user to be able to stop the program from scaring you into buying the fake product.  It could also have a Scareware Adviser trying to get you to buy the fake product!

Scareware Adviser from securitybrowseradviser.com

By Paul | Jul 11, 2009

It looks like I have been added to this website but it is a fake URL Hijacker that wants to sponsor Personal Antivirus Just Scareware. Yep you guessed it they are blocking this url from trying to be displayed some of the people are still ignoring the warning and coming to my site  anyways.
securitybrowseradviser1

So the first question is how do I know this is a fake site warning. Well I did my research I went to Phishtank.com and check to see if my URL was being blocked. I also clicked the link to see what this link went “Activate my Web protection software”. It sent me to this site:

personalantivirus2

As you can see this site “ieprotectionlist.com” calls itself the Personal Antivirus and look it even says “Malicious behavior detected”. I start looking for anything about this software no links to contact them or no links to learn more about this product. This is how I know this is a scareware site. If you seem to be getting these warnings it is time to go download real antivirus software.

Microsoft Get Ready for Patch Tuesday. 6 Bulletins

By Paul | Jul 10, 2009

According to Arstechnica there will be 6 Bulletins and each of them are very interesting:

  • Bulletin 1: Critical (Remote Code Execution), Windows
  • Bulletin 2: Critical (Remote Code Execution), Windows
  • Bulletin 3: Critical (Remote Code Execution), Windows
  • Bulletin 4: Important (Elevation of Privilege), Virtual PC, Virtual Server
  • Bulletin 5: Important (Elevation of Privilege), ISA Server
  • Bulletin 6: Important (Remote Code Execution), Office

It looks like there will be another Directx Patch for those who have Directx 7 through 9.0c.  It also seems they will be Patching the Virtual PC and Server and ISA Server.    Microsoft will also be patching 2007 Microsoft Office System Service Pack 1.  They will also Be Releasing 14 different patches for non Critical status.

The vista-users-unaffected.ars” target=”_blank”>Directx Flaw that was reported in May is reportedly being patched and that is why we have these Directx updates that are comming down from Microsoft.

So Now is the time to get Autopatcher updated to the lastest updates and schedule a time next week for you to test and install these updates.   I would recommend updating your anti-virus and Firewall software if you have any, if not it is time to get them and install them.

Using Malwarebytes to get Rid of Malware

By Paul | Jul 8, 2009

Malwarebytes

I have been using Malwarebytes for quite some time.  I have the Installer for Malwarebytes in place on a  USB drive so i can use anywhere I go. I have seen several computers with very old Viruses and this actually detected them.

How Malwarebytes useful

  • Malwarebytes has a really good protection module to help prevent infections in the first place, but that requires you to buy it.  It should never be used without at least a firewall installed but it is a good defense against what I like to call a Drive by install.
  • Automatically create logs of Malware that is found — This is good to for people who want to be able to check out what might be infected.   Also good to help identify the virus or Trojan, and find out how to uninfected it.
  • Cheaper than buying AVG — Cost $24.95 which is half of the cost of buying AVG.
