New Rogue Antispyware — contraviro.com

By Paul | Aug 31, 2009

contraviro_rogue

This is a new rogue Antispyware site that has popped up today and I wanted to talk about this.   For one contacting these guys does no good because if you were to click the contact link it will send you to a form page.    The file that it tries to send me is called “ContraviroInstall.exe“.   I’ve sent the file to SuperAntiSpyware team for Analysis and should be updating there databases in the next few days to prevent and protect your system from any Malware that might be associated with this program.

So if you have this fakeware or I call it scareware, maybe it is time to buy SuperAntiSpyware Professional which comes with Realtime Blocking of threats! Prrevent potentially harmful software (spyware, adware, worms, dialers, hijackers, keyloggers) from installing or re-installing.

If your looking for a Good Antispyware, you should consider SuperAntiSpyware either the Free version or the Paid version anyway this software is back by CSS Forums.

How to know if the scareware warning is real or not:

By Paul | Aug 30, 2009

I got an email from someone who wants not to be named asking how do I know if these sites that I have talked about like Defenderpageblock.com, Spywaredomainlist.com, adwaredomainlists.com, badwaredomainlists.com, browserdefenderlist.com, malicioussitesblock.com, and browserliveprotection.com are fake warning sites because of how the site handles the URL presented.   Let me give you a few example urls to see what I mean:

http://defenderpageblock.com/block.php?id=2006-54&url=http://tech-linkblog.com/scareware-adviser-from-defenderpageblock-com/

http://browserliveprotection.com/block.php?id=2024-4&url=http://tech-linkblog.com/2008/12/microsoft-readys-to-layoff-around-15000-workers.html/

http://malicioussitesblock.com/block.php?id=2006-54&url=http://tech-linkblog.com/2009/08/list-of-malware-sites-for-aug-24-2009.html/

http://spywaredomainlists.com/block.php?id=2018-2&url=http://tech-linkblog.com/2009/08/scareware-adviser-from-spywaredomainlists-com.html/

http://adwaredomainlists.com/block.php?id=2031&url=http://tech-linkblog.com/2009/04/pc-speedscan-pro-a-bad-idea.html/

Now as you can see al these have an identification number probably like an affiliate link and then the url of the site that is supposed to be bad or have malicious in some way.  So what do you do when you see these types of warning pop up and you would like to know if this real.   Here are some things to try to see if it is real or not:

  • change the url it is going to, try Google or some other site that you know isn’t malicious and see what happens.   You will notice it will say the same exact same thing.
  • Check out Stopbadware.org –  Google uses this service for there search results so this would be more reliable and check out the warning domain to see what it says then also check out the domain and website in question.

Permalinks have been changed

By Paul | Aug 29, 2009

This is quick note to all my readers, the permalinks for my website have changed to take of the “.html” and be a little more friendlier to all the Search engines. Until this web page all URLS are going to be messed up and you will get a 404. The fix for this is to take off the “.html” in the URL!! Until I figure out a way to fix that. This is due to 2 years ago changing from blogspot to Wordpress, I got tired of the “.html” extension!!

4chan and Woofer equals Chris Pirillo

By Paul | Aug 25, 2009

I was doing my usual looking around the internet and I found Woofer, this is almost like Twitter but a little different.  woffer is:

We are in no way associated with Twitter.

This is simply a novelty website where we thought it would be funny to have a minimum character requirement for public posts and see what people did with it.

What can you accomplish with the extra 1260 characters?

  • - Be eloquent.
  • - Use adverbs.
  • - DEA (don’t ever abbreviate).

[Via Woofer's About page]

As I was checking this out I saw Chris Pirillo Posting comments almost like it was a bot:

chris-pirillo-woofer2Upon clicking the MORE button you would get something like this:

chris-pirillo-woofer1

Now I don’t know what the extra characters are but let’s talk about Moot and 4chan.    Moot is the founder and owner of 4chan.   I can only guess what is going on but the public timeline for Woofer is littered with  this as off tonight.   I don’t know if this is just to get attention to go to woofer or if this is an attempt to have 4chan attack Chris Pirillo, either way this will most likely be an ongoing development.  if anyone can figure out the characters by all means email me or leave a comment and I’ll do a followup story on this.   Although this could be because you have to the ridiculously long woof and might just be added by the server to fit the character requirements.  I do not know.

Piratebay is back up after a Day

By Paul | Aug 25, 2009

PiratebayshirtAfter the Swedish police demanded the website be taken down on Aug 24, 2009.   I am quite surprised not a lot of websites talked about this.   As you can see they are back, after being down for about a day.

The court ordered the site’s major bandwidth supplier, Black Internet, to disconnect TPB from the Internet or face penalties of 500,000 kroner ($70,600). The ISP complied, saying that it had no choice but to uphold the law.

[via Torrent Freak]

Although Piratebay got another Provider, I am unure of what the courts will due because anything they do now will show just how foolish they are.    As you can see the shirt is quite funny and I am really interested to see what will happen in the coming months to years.   This is a combined effort from several different networks to take down Piratebay.     Some of you who are having trouble getting to this site should clear your cache.   You should be able to get to that site with no trouble.

AVG 8.5 Free Version Best on my system

By Paul | Aug 25, 2009

AVG Free 8.5

Pcworld has a released there top free Antivirus software picks.     Now let’s be clear on this, I am an a average user, and have tested these products out on my own laptop plus others and here is what I find.

According to Pcworld, Avira Antivir Personal is the top pick and claims to block 98.9 percent of samples:

Such less-than-friendly default behaviors make Avira AntiVir Personal a better choice for tech-savvy users who know how to muck about in the settings. If you’re willing to put up with a somewhat clumsy interface and the recurring pop-up ads, in return you’ll enjoy top-notch, free protection against malware. It’s not a bad trade-off by any means.

[Via Pcworld : Avira Antivir Personal Antivirus]

Now with Pcworld saying it isn’t a bad trade-off to have the Pop-ups and the default behaviors of this program, it doesn’t make me want to use this program since I am a gamer and the pop-ups would interfere with playing online games, not to mention if your not that tech savy person you’d have a lot of head scratching to  figure out this program.

Please Link to my site emails

By Paul | Aug 24, 2009

From time to time I get emails asking me to link to there sites because of one thing or another. I have no problem linking to sites that I think have valuable information, but when I get email to link to sites that are really new I have a problem.

In the email he talks about how his business got scammed out of 6,000$ dollars and how he just created the site four weeks earlier due to how out raged he is that his business got scammed for so much money.

As you may have noticed this site that still remains unnamed because I am uncomfortable with adding the link to my site. Now I won’t say anything bad about creating a site, and I am sure it was something like the Check cashing scam I came across a few months ago and talked about.

So I wanted to talk about how to get people to come to you site:

  • Submit your Site to search engines –  This is the first step to getting people to find your site.   Some sites to submit to for free are Pingomatic, Ask.com, and Yahoo.   These are the three that I suggest starting off to have Search engines finding your site.  All other search engines will come to your site over time.

Twitter Spam for Cari-weightloss

By Paul | Aug 18, 2009

I was doing my usual checking out what people are talking about and I see Cari-Wieghtloss.net, Cari-Weightloss.com, and Cari-Weightloss.org.

Going to the Pages I see:

Cari-weightloss-spam

I already once talked about the Acai Berry Twitter spam, but this talks about another product that is part of the Plan call “ColonCure” which if you look into they have had some complaints about them.   I even found more from the Rip-off Report’s, talking about taking the money out of your account.  There are two links in this page that point go to these products.  They both come from the domain meet-google.com, which I must warn you is not associated with Google.com.  I did more research on Acai Berry but I will let you read what people have to say about that.

Each of those sites have a clause where they have not be evaluated by the FDA(Food and Drug Administration).   Also they either say out right that you will have to pay for shipping or don’t say at all.   If anything says anything about these companies until they have been tested by the FDA, I would recommend people not try these products because of the possible side effects or complications that may result in the combination of the two drugs.  I’m not a doctor but I can tell there is something fishy with at least on product and if I find one there will usually be more.
