All links to the Norton forums from google that mention PIFTS.exe are coming up as being deleted. This is being followed closely at http://chrysler5thavenue.blogspot.com/2009/03/p...

I found this while searching for pifts.exe tonight. I read the first thread on the norton forums and it had several thousand views in just a few hours and a large number of comments about people seeing the same thing. I was surprised a bit later that it seemed to be gone, replaced by another thread with just a few replies. A bit later I went back to check the status and that one was gone as well. I posted my own thread just asking what the PIFTS.exe was (if it had been figured out yet) and what happened to the previous threads. This thread lasted not even 5 minutes before it had been removed when I checked back on it. No idea what's going on, but Norton is certainly not handling it professionally. In my case at least I've blocked the pifts.exe program since there is no information available on what it actually is.
