How to Setup your own Blog, The Easy way
Comments OffOver the weekend I had a chance to talk to my sister who was interested in having setting up her own blog. She didn’t know a thing about setting up her own blog and asked me to walk her step by step. So I thought I would also walk my readers through this whole process and help you set up your own blog to.
This process will take approximately an hour to two hours, each step will be talked about in detail through a series of blog post. This shouldn’t not take long for anyone to do, depending on the speed of your internet. In fact if you follow my directions, it should be really quick and easy. No mess or fuss.

Hulu Days Of Summer are here again
So we have it here right now, and it starts out really good. You can watch Stargate SG1 Season 1 through 4 the whole summer. The last of the Mohicans was the frst movie they brought out for this event. I rember last years one where we had to guess the coming week. Some of the ones that I did last year were:
- Hulu’s Summer Clues Aug 11th-15th, 2008
- Hulu’s Summer clues — Unleashed Edition 2!
- Clues of the ages unearthed! June 28 – Aug 1
- Hulu’s Summer Clues Aug 11th-15th, 2008
- The Clues of the Ages Unlocked!! Aug 4-8, 2008
Now I don’t know all that will come this summer but I would of liked to have clues like we did last year. That would of been really fun. Oh well, I will keep watch on this and see what comes from this. I also have been using the Hulu Desktop more and more, it seems to work well with A600 Cricket modem really well. For those who have it, I would suggest using the lowest quality of playback for using it. It really isn’t bad quality for watching shows and such on. You really don’t have to worry to much about buffering. Although you should check your settings on the player and change them.

- Bulletin 9: Important (Elevation of Privilege): Windows
- Bulletin 10: Moderate (Information Disclosure): Windows
It will also include one or more updates on WSUS and Windows update, and Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. This looks to be quite a big set of updates. Each one is very serious and will probably be a big download. If your in corporate IT you may want to get ready the Autopatcher program this will help update all the important files on each system without having to have a internet Connection.

According to people on twitter that she will talk about Twitter tomorrow, April 17, 2009. So what does that mean there will be a whole influx of people joining Twitter and people following her so I would imagine tomorrow and the next few days, you will see the great white whale!! Twitter will be sluggish and possible unresponsive the next few days also.

Patch Tuesday List for April 14, 2009
Comments OffSo Microsoft has released the patches for April and here they are:
- Vulnerabilities in Windows Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (KB959454) — This security update resolves four publicly disclosed vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker is allowed to log on to the system and then run a specially crafted application. The attacker must be able to run code on the local machine in order to exploit this vulnerability. An attacker who successfully exploited any of these vulnerabilities could take complete control over the affected system.
- Vulnerabilities in Windows HTTP Services Could Allow Remote Code Execution (KB960803) – This security update resolves one publicly disclosed vulnerability and two privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows HTTP Services (WinHTTP). The most severe vulnerability could allow remote code execution. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (KB963027) — This security update resolves four privately reported vulnerabilities and two publicly disclosed vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted Web page using Internet Explorer or if a user connects to an attacker’s server by way of the HTTP protocol. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
So it Is April 1, 2009 Now What?
Comments OffSo you survived the April Fools Joke that most people were talking about. Are you more Mindful of what a Virus is and how to best defend against it. If not let’s go back in the past and talk about some of the necessary Programs:
- If you haven’t already installed a Free Anti Virus, this would be the time to. Also install a Firewall to better protect you.
- Never install any software from unknown site — This is most important even though they seem harmless enough there are sites that have fake adobe updates or even flash updates that will install Maleware into your system. So if you have any doubt should visit the main site like Adobe.com to check for updates.
- If something scares you, count to ten – That is very useful when it comes to scareware sites that like to scare you into buying there fake anti virus software that doesn’t do anything. I say count to ten because by the time you did you will go looking for information on either that site or that warning and come to the conclusion it was scareware.
TINYURL being used by scammers and hackers — How to prevent it!!
Comments OffWith Phishing attempts going on with the TINYURL redirect website, I thought I would show you how you could prevent from going to a site you don’t want. Tinyurl.com has a great little feature, although it is a feature based on your cookies. It however will help prevent you from going to a site that you don’t know anything that about. It’s called the Preview Feature, and is available to any user who wants to use it.

As you can see if you enable it and you go to a click on a tinyurl, you will see this:

Figuring out the Hole for The USB Cricket Card? UM100C
Comments OffSo you bought and you see:

You probably wondering what that can be used for? Here’s what I know and from what I found out. That little can be used as an external Antenna. You could also use this to boost your signal and be able to use this for places that might not be getting a better speed upward and downward bandwidth. You see it all depends on where the Cell Towers are. Although this will likely help those who are either 1 to Almost Zero signal, it will not help those who are outside of the network. It might help and it might not, it depends on the location your at and the closest coverage area. If your on the edge of the coverage area and you buy this antenna it Should boost your signal and get you a better speed. I will not say it will help but in theory it could help. If you want to find out the other post that I have done on this subject please check my Cricket tag for more information. Although it varies on person to person, and region to region this is going to be a variable that will always remain in the grey. Only way to find out is to try it.
Phishing sites pop up for IRS!
Comments OffWell, this just came to light with The Spywareguide blog. I’ve seen some activity about Where’s my refund lately and I thought I tell you how to make sure you’re on the right site. If you’re expecting a refund check the OFFICIAL SITE. The Official Site is http://www.irs.gov and nothing else. If you want to find out about some of the most common Phishing attempts check out the Phishing advice from the IRS.
gicrisis.org/data/refundtax/SearchTAXERR.php

jklabs.cz/phpayv2/admin/import/.secure/www.irs.gov/get-refund/refunds.php?Where_is_my_refund&Get_Refund
Although this list will most likely change this is just starting for people who filed there income tax. Some things to Remember are:
You can generally access information about your refund 72 hours after IRS acknowledges receipt of your e-filed return, or three to four weeks after mailing a paper return
Barack Obama isn’t leaving the White House!
Comments OffIn a story from Sophos, some e-mails are going around saying that Barack Obama is not going to be president or that he will not be inauguration. Sopho’s also makes a great comparison for the two sites and it does try to look like the official site.

Which if you click on the “Continue Reading” link it will try to send a file “Speech.exe” which is W32/Waled-Gen or Mal/WaledPak-A. It is a fake site to look like the real site, it is never a good idea on clicking on links that looks real. For those of you who want to watch the Inauguration online I would suggest Hulu:
You can watch it happen when it happens. So sit back relax and enjoy the show!!

Upcoming CES 2009 — Juicy Stories
Comments OffSo we are getting close to CES or Computer Electronics Show to some. This is going to be a very interesting year, due to the depressing economy. So I wanted to talk about some of the upcoming announcements at CES so people could get ready for the upcoming 2009 Show:
- Skype will announce free US and Canada calling to cellular numbers or land lines. This will undoubtedly be an Ad supported service and have a limited amount of minutes per call. This will be good for people on the road who need to make a quick call here and there without having to pay for anything. They have given some of the tidbits out already but I can’t wait to find out what else they will announce at CES.
- Windows 7 Beta — People seem to think they will release the beta the same day they announce just like they did at the PDC(Professional Developers Conference) and also give it out to people at CES. Although that might work to a point it will be very hard for people to get in the BETA. There is a list brewing of people wanting to get onto the beta in the Microsoft Connection Community Site. I can’t wait for next month but I am sure it is going to be nice.
