Black Friday becomes Blacker!

By Laforge129 | Nov 28, 2008

There aren’t a lot of details yet, but news sources are saying that in Palm Desert, California, two people died after a shooting inside a Toys R Us. One story suggests that the shooting was the result of an altercation between two teenage girls. Apparently, a boy, listed as a juvenile, was responsible for the shooting and was detained.

According to Gizmodo, two people are dead and I’ve looked at KMIR News 6 and There is no more information.  I do not like this years black friday it seems like Recession is hitting people harder than people thought!!  Not much else is known but this is going to be the worst Black Friday for a while.   I don’t think there has been any thing like this before.

Black Friday gets way out of hand!!! (No JOKE)

By Laforge129 | Nov 28, 2008

OK, Black Friday has officially gotten out of hand. A 34-year-old WalMart employee was trying to hold back the crowds at a Long Island store this morning at 5am, when they took the doors off their hinges and stormed the store. The man fell down and was trampled by over 200 people as he gasped for air. It’s sad and despicable, and it’s equally the fault of the dehumanized shoppers and the WalMart store it happened at.
[via Gizmodo]

This is a sad day when people are more interested in deals then someone getting stampeded by other people.   This happened in the Long Island Wal-mart.    I much prefer CyberMonday, where you don’t have to worry about someone getting killed.   I feel sorry for the people involved they now have to deal with there conscience.   I hope this teaches Wal-mart to do something different next year.  Next year they should have them enter one at a time in a line, every 2 seconds or so!!

Oprah Recommends the Kindle!

By Paul | Oct 24, 2008

Today in Chicago, and on TV screens across the USA, Oprah Winfrey is going to recommend her new “favorite gadget,” which is Amazon’s Kindle ebook reader. A brief video has appeared on Amazon’s website to plug the show — as spotted by Chris Nuttall at the Financial Times — which will also feature a guest appearance by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. (Not his first, by the way.)

I this recent turn of events I thought I recommend some great Kindle Reviews and let you decide if it is worth your money.  So Here are some fantastic Sources to help you decide for yourself:

These are just a few that I could find to better help you make choices on if you would like to buy a Kindle.  I hope this better helps you decide if it is worth.

Apple reports there earnings for the quarter!

By Paul | Oct 21, 2008

After all that happened today, Apple decides to talk about there earnings for today.  Some things to consider are:

Apple ships more than 2.6 million Macs and 6.9 Billion Iphones.   Now let’s do the numbers on this 6.9 billion Iphones at an average over 500$ a piece would mean quite a earnings for Apple.  This according to Applewatch and I’ve got to think is this showing the real economy or is this all hype from Steve Jobs?

According to M&G Business they are up 24 per cent this fiscal year.  Which means that they have gain ahead from the recent problems in the stock market.  Are they going to be able keep that going?

Last but final least saying of the day Gizmodo is stating : Steve is on the call, says that iPhone is now 39 percent of their business, Apple is now world’s “third largest mobile phone supplier.”

Now what about the Google Phone is that going to out sale the Iphone?  I would like to know the current status of how man Google phones they have estimation sold on pre-orders?  Are they going to be able to out do the Iphone or is it going to be even more of a problem when they release the final numbers on the G-phone!!

Free software from Microsoft are stopped!!

By Paul | Dec 12, 2007

freevista.jpg

Remember yesterday when I told you that you could get a boatload of free software from Microsoft, including Vista and Office, for allowing them to track your computer usage for a few months? Well, apparently a lot of you jumped on it, as Microsoft shut down the offer yesterday afternoon. Too slow? Sorry pal, I’d be happy to spy on your computer usage, but I’m not promising any free software for the honor. [ComputerWorld]

Upgrade Your Hackintosh to OS X 10.5.1

By Paul | Nov 30, 2007

update-hackintosh-10.5.1.png

A couple of weeks ago, I detailed how I built a Hackintosh Mac on the cheap from start to finish. The build benchmarked incredibly well, and I’ve been using it as my main PC every day since. A few days ago, I decided it was time to upgrade my Hackintosh to Mac OS X 10.5.1, the first update for Leopard. Here’s how it works.

First… Did It Work?

Yes, updating to 10.5.1 worked (and continues to work) very well, and if you’re installing Leopard with my previous guide, it only adds a couple of extra steps. However, I did run into a snag which I’ll detail later.

A good article on how to upgrade a hacktosh. Go check out how to at lifehacker!

Manage Your Tasks with Leopard’s To Dos

By Paul | Oct 28, 2007

to-do 1.png

One thing that Windows and Outlook have always had up on the Mac’s default email and calendar apps, Mail and iCal, is Outlook’s integrated to-do manager. Today the game changes. Leopard’s new Mail and iCal applications introduce their own take on the email- and calendar-integrated to-do list. So now the question is: Is it any good? The answer: Yes. And no. But probably yes. The To Do manager, at the moment, is a bit of a mishmash of some very good and a few bad—or at least unrealized—features.

The Mail.app To Do feature resides in the Reminders panel of the Mail sidebar below Notes. Mail to-dos can be organized by due date, priority (high, medium, low, or none), title, and calendar (that’s right, they also integrate with iCal). You can create a new to-do in a couple of ways.

A good article for the Mac users!! Go check out the full article!!

A Better Way to Set Up Gmail IMAP

By Paul | Oct 24, 2007

If you’ve set up Gmail IMAP using Google’s instructions, you may have noticed a couple of snags—namely that your Sent Mail, Drafts, and Deleted Mail aren’t necessarily matching up as you’d expect between your email client and Gmail. To remedy this, you’ll have to tweak a few advanced configuration settings in your client, and weblog 5ThirtyOne has the details. On the iPhone, for example:
  1. Open ‘Settings’ > ‘Mail’ > [Your Gmail IMAP account] > ‘Advanced’
  2. Select ‘Drafts Mailbox’ > ‘On the Server’ > ‘[Gmail] Drafts’. Return to the ‘Advanced’ view.
  3. Select ‘Sent Mailbox’ > ‘On the Server’ > ‘[Gmail] Sent Mail’. Return to the ‘Advanced’ view.
  4. Select ‘Deleted Mailbox’ > ‘On the Server’ > ‘[Gmail] Trash’. Return to the ‘Advanced’ view.

If you prefer your deleted email client messages to archive in Gmail rather than go to the trash (which seems like a more Gmail-like solution), there’s one change.

Rather than mapping your Trash folder to Gmail’s Trash, you’ll want to select the “All Mail” mailbox—effectively removing the email from your inbox but not deleting it from your Gmail account altogether.

This is for the Ipod Touch and the Iphone. I thought people would like to know how to setup the GMAIL on them!!

The Complete Guide to Mac/Windows Interoperability

By Paul | Oct 19, 2007

You’ve got a household full of PC’s and you’ve stopped yourself from getting a Mac because you don’t want to deal with incompatibility headaches. Eight years ago that would’ve been understandable, but today Mac OS and Windows can work together in harmony on the same home network, sharing files and printers, mounting one another’s drives and using the same equipment, like wireless routers and USB drives. If you’re considering a mixed Mac/PC home or office, here’s a primer on how the two systems inter-operate (and the few instances when they don’t.)

A really good article on how to make both the Mac and PC communicate with each other. I think the picture is quite nicely done!!

Hibernate vs. Standby

By Paul | Oct 17, 2007

Quick: What’s the difference between putting your PC in Hibernate or Standby mode? Yeah, we weren’t sure either. Luckily the Productivity Portfolio weblog schools us on the finer details of Windows XP power schemes. Using Standby:
Your machine recovers quickly as your data is stored in RAM. The slower part is waking up the peripherals. Although your machine is in “standby” the power has been cut to items such as your hard drive and monitor. You’re running your machine in a very low power mode, but it is still on. This mode can be useful if you’re on a notebook and need to conserve your battery while you step away.

With Hibernate:

The big difference is that your PC has shut down and is not pulling power. Another difference is that your data is saved to your hard disk and not RAM. This makes it a safer, but slower option for shut down and resume.

Not all PCs have the capability and are configured to Hibernate. If yours is, to see the Hibernate option on your XP shutdown screen, hold down the Shift key when you shut down.

New Harry Potter DVD Comes Bundled With Portable Video

By Paul | Oct 12, 2007

Warner Home Video announced today that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be the first DVD to come bundled with multiple video formats on a single disk. In addition to the regular DVD format, the disk will include versions for both home computer viewing and playback on portable media players. There has been no word on whether DRM could be part of the equation, but keep in mind that protection schemes are typical with Warner releases.

Warner execs also noted that they will soon roll out an on-demand form of DVD burning that will help bridge the gap between in-store purchases and downloading. Again, CSS copy protection will most likely be part of the equation, but they claim that these releases would not be platform specific. It may not be perfect, but it should help movie fans who have been ripping video save a little time. Order of the Phoenix is due on store shelves December 11th.[Electronista]

I wonder how good the quality is going to be and what will be able to use it?

Ubiquiti Announces First 700Mhz Mini-PCI Wireless Card

By Paul | Oct 10, 2007

Ubiquiti Networks has come out with the “world’s first” wireless card specifically designed for the hotly desired and discussed 700Mhz band everyone’s scrambling to get a piece of. The XtremeRange7 uses the 32-bit mini-PCI Type IIIA standard and sports a ridiculous output power of 600 mW (your dinky home router’s probably putting out 28mW), which Ubiquiti claims gives it a tested antenna-dependent outdoor range of over 50 km, perfect for picking up wireless broadband provided by future (or current) licensees of the 700Mhz band.

Wow, that is one extreme wireless!! I hope they come up with a laptop version!

I-Phone has been broken out of Jail!!

By Paul | Oct 8, 2007

While it’s not quite ready for mere mortals to use it, hackers that call themselves the iPhone/Touch Dev Team say they’ve finally managed to jailbreak the iPhone firmware version 1.1.1. It’s great news because 1) the latest iPhone can be activated again without signing up with AT&T and 2) third-party applications will be able to run once again, kinda. Don’t get too excited just yet, though, because there’s still a lot of “major hacking” left to do. Full details from Dev Team after the jump:

I’ve figured they do it sooner or later but kinda of depressing that they have to recompile the 3rd party apps. Go check out the full story!

iPhone Re-Reviewed (Verdict: Don’t Buy)

By Paul | Sep 28, 2007

It’s about 3 months after the iPhone launch, and happy with the improvements, I was planning to change our “Wait” verdict to a full-on and rabid “Buy”. That wasn’t because of Apple, but because of the cool apps being offered by independent developers. All that came to an end yesterday after the new Apple firmware 1.1.1 neutered the handset. Sure, unlocked iPhones were broken. But more importantly, Apple wiped away the powerful programs that helped push the iPhone to greatness. With this, I’m going to have to move our recommendation from “Wait” to “Don’t hold your breath.” I’m done with this handset until third-party apps come back.

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/iphone/iphone-re+reviewed-verdict-dont-buy-302075.php

Well Gizmodo pretty much sums up what I have being thinking, It’s not worth buying due to no Third party applications. When they let people use third party applications then It will be an Awesome phone, but until then it isn’t worth buying
