Comments OffSo I’ve done some looking around for bandwidth programs. So here’s what I found so far. The programs I’ve got listed are not test and are therefore your responsible for any and all use of the programs.

FreeMeter Bandwidth Monitor For Windows – Monitor network bandwidth (C#.NET 2k/XP+). Desktop and Systray graph. Configurable connection speed, update interval, color, transparency. Monitor any or all network interfaces. Ping/Trace/UPnP utilities. Email notifier (POP/IMAP). Requires .NET 2.0.

Pipelog – Windows Bandwidth Meter — Pipelog is a Windows bandwidth meter that gives live statistics of accumulated bandwidth usage. It is written in C# and runs on the .NET Framework.

Windows Service Monitor – Monitor and automatically restart Windows Services with this small Win32 command line utility. Windows Service Monitor (WinSMon) can monitor several services, restart services that stop/fail and limit the number of restart times.

iptotal — iptotal is an IP traffic monitor. It listens to a network interface in non-promiscuous mode, and measures IP bandwidth usage. After the specified number of seconds, the average throughput is printed at total, input and output usage.

Gmail’s IMAP support roll-out this week had nerds all atwitter about the possibility of synchronized email access across devices, computers, and clients. IMAP is far superior to regular old POP for fetching your messages and maintaining your folder list whether you’re on your iPhone, office or home computer. A Better Way to Set Up Gmail IMAP

If you’ve set up Gmail IMAP using Google’s instructions, you may have noticed a couple of snags—namely that your Sent Mail, Drafts, and Deleted Mail aren’t necessarily matching up as you’d expect between your email client and Gmail. To remedy this, you’ll have to tweak a few advanced configuration settings in your client, and weblog 5ThirtyOne has the details. On the iPhone, for example:
- Open ‘Settings’ > ‘Mail’ > [Your Gmail IMAP account] > ‘Advanced’
- Select ‘Drafts Mailbox’ > ‘On the Server’ > ‘[Gmail] Drafts’. Return to the ‘Advanced’ view.
- Select ‘Sent Mailbox’ > ‘On the Server’ > ‘[Gmail] Sent Mail’. Return to the ‘Advanced’ view.
- Select ‘Deleted Mailbox’ > ‘On the Server’ > ‘[Gmail] Trash’. Return to the ‘Advanced’ view.
If you prefer your deleted email client messages to archive in Gmail rather than go to the trash (which seems like a more Gmail-like solution), there’s one change.
Rather than mapping your Trash folder to Gmail’s Trash, you’ll want to select the “All Mail” mailbox—effectively removing the email from your inbox but not deleting it from your Gmail account altogether.

Google Adds IMAP to Gmail, World Rejoices

f you are a Gmail user, head over to your account settings and select “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” to enable the newly added IMAP access option. If you don’t know what the Internet Message Access Protocol is, this system allows you to access mail directly on the Google servers instead of downloading it to your computer. That way, if you access mail from multiple devices, your inbox and mail folders will look the same from every one of them. Gmail’s IMAP setup page includes tutorials for Outlook, Apple Mail, Windows Mail, Thunderbird, and, you guessed it, the iPhone. [Thanks John and everyone who sent this]
