Monoprice Still have issues

By Paul | Mar 16, 2010

As you can see Monoprice.com and on their Facebook page, people are still getting Fraudulent charges. I just wanted to talk about this a little to remind people about Credit Card Security. I would expect you once they start to take Credit cards to start using Paypal one time Credit cards if you are going to buy anything from any other retailer. As you can see right now they are going to use Paypal checkout and Google Checkout to make purchases in the coming weeks.

This however is a small step to fixing the problem at hand. They are trying to be as transparent as possible with their customers but they will always have doubt when Monoprice starts to use Credit Cards in the coming future. It is going to be really interesting to see when that does come back up. I encourage everyone to use not give out your True Credit card information online and if you need to buy something online to use the PayPal.

This was a quick post to let people know about the news that is still going around with Monoprice!! Until this is fully fixed I suggest getting your cables from Amazon.com.

New Scareware Twitter Campaign, Not all links are safe!

By Paul | Sep 21, 2009

I was checking out twitscoop and I happen to find something interesting out. Looks like the scareware scammers have started to target twitter:

ScarewareTwitter2

which anyone of those links will lead you to something like this:

ScarewareTwitter1

As you can see they are trying to scare you into buying there software or install their fake software. These are redirect URLS and they have started to use twitter trends to copy. Some of the ones that I am seeing are sites that I have already talked about, most of these are Windows Security Suites and should not be installed or downloaded. These sites are what are commonly called “Fakeware” and do nothing more than scare you into paying for their services and after they have your card will most likely use it for other purchases These are what I call fake scanner pages trying to fool you into thinking this is on your system.

4chan and Woofer equals Chris Pirillo

By Paul | Aug 25, 2009

I was doing my usual looking around the internet and I found Woofer, this is almost like Twitter but a little different.  woffer is:

We are in no way associated with Twitter.

This is simply a novelty website where we thought it would be funny to have a minimum character requirement for public posts and see what people did with it.

What can you accomplish with the extra 1260 characters?

  • - Be eloquent.
  • - Use adverbs.
  • - DEA (don’t ever abbreviate).

[Via Woofer's About page]

As I was checking this out I saw Chris Pirillo Posting comments almost like it was a bot:

chris-pirillo-woofer2Upon clicking the MORE button you would get something like this:

chris-pirillo-woofer1

Now I don’t know what the extra characters are but let’s talk about Moot and 4chan.    Moot is the founder and owner of 4chan.   I can only guess what is going on but the public timeline for Woofer is littered with  this as off tonight.   I don’t know if this is just to get attention to go to woofer or if this is an attempt to have 4chan attack Chris Pirillo, either way this will most likely be an ongoing development.  if anyone can figure out the characters by all means email me or leave a comment and I’ll do a followup story on this.   Although this could be because you have to the ridiculously long woof and might just be added by the server to fit the character requirements.  I do not know.

List of Fake AV sites for Aug 22, 2009

By Paul | Aug 21, 2009

personalantivirus2If you know anything about the Malware writers they are always registering new domains and here is the newest ones they are using:

Personal Antivirus Scareware Site:

  • antispywarebestscanner.com
  • professionalvirusscanv3.com
  • professionalcomputerscanv2.com
  • scan-your-pc-now.com
  • professionalspywarescanv8.com
Internet Antivirus Pro Scareware:

  • hopest.info
  • suffic.info
  • cressy.info
  • unowed.info
  • inclin.info

Rogue Antivirus scareware sites:

  • securitytoolsite.com (Fake Scanner)
  • webscansecurepc.com (Fake Scanner)

Most of the time, These sites are injected into one's browser by way of a Trojan taking over the system. If left untreated these sites will become more and more profound trying to get you to install them. Most of the time these are installed in unsuspecting computers by way of exploits, backdoors, or unsafe downloading practices. This usually means that if you have it you should remove it by any means necessary because this software has been know to cause more and more trouble as time goes by. This software is fake ware, it tries to tell you have a virus and that they can get rid of it. In fact, this software is not designed with Antivirus engine in mind but to illicit pop ups and warning to raise the users security concerns about the computer in question. Downloading programs from bit torrents or other unsafe ways can and most likely will have these types of programs installed alongside the program you wanted.

Threat to System : Moderate

Twitter Spam for Cari-weightloss

By Paul | Aug 18, 2009

I was doing my usual checking out what people are talking about and I see Cari-Wieghtloss.net, Cari-Weightloss.com, and Cari-Weightloss.org.

Going to the Pages I see:

Cari-weightloss-spam

I already once talked about the Acai Berry Twitter spam, but this talks about another product that is part of the Plan call “ColonCure” which if you look into they have had some complaints about them.   I even found more from the Rip-off Report’s, talking about taking the money out of your account.  There are two links in this page that point go to these products.  They both come from the domain meet-google.com, which I must warn you is not associated with Google.com.  I did more research on Acai Berry but I will let you read what people have to say about that.

Cari-weightloss-spam1Cari-weightloss-spam2

Each of those sites have a clause where they have not be evaluated by the FDA(Food and Drug Administration).   Also they either say out right that you will have to pay for shipping or don’t say at all.   If anything says anything about these companies until they have been tested by the FDA, I would recommend people not try these products because of the possible side effects or complications that may result in the combination of the two drugs.  I’m not a doctor but I can tell there is something fishy with at least on product and if I find one there will usually be more.

Computer Security : important caveat not all websites are safe

By Paul | Jul 27, 2009

Everyday we’ve seen people get infections on there systems and most don’t understand that they’ve been duped and have installed the software themselves.

In this article we will talk about how most people will willingly install these Trojans and virus themselves for several different reasons.

ineluctable truth about Human Nature

These malware authors know all about how people think.    It usually happens when people think they are seeing something provocative and something you can watch in your private homes.   There are several different ways to do this:

  • News stories –  Alas this is always being used to spread malware.   For example Erin Andrews Peephole malware.
  • Fake photos files — This is also a very common ploy, to make people think it is a Photo but in reality it is an Executable.  Example : MichealJackson.JPG.EXE
  • Fake Codecs — You visit what you think is a popular movie and it says you need to install a codec.  This is another way for people to get infected with a Trojan, or a Virus.   For example : Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince malware.

Those get rich quick schemes are doubtful

By Paul | Jun 15, 2009

I was on Twitter and I saw this message from someone I am following.   Talking about how to make 171,161.08 a month.

Ok before we go any further you would have to see the name Oprah Winfrey (see Above for Photo of Account) just like the name of the one who just came on to twitter.    Now is this a true name or just a fake account?  I’ll let you decide that because it looks like it is just random tweets with the same URL.    This to me is looking more and more like spam.  Back to the site, it is call Maverick Money Makers.

As you can tell this is like every other get rich page I’ve seen trying to tell you will make insane amount of money in a few minutes a day.  So I decide to go to another page unrelated to this page and you will get.

Juste Goes from Twitter to Facebook

By Paul | May 30, 2009

According to Twitter Spam report:

Best video” not so great — we’re working on it.
No matter how good that “best video” looks, don’t go to any juste.ru domains. We’re aware of the situation and are working on it.

Some sources have started to report this and how it was being sent out. It seems to be some kind of Virus that is taking control of your Twitter account. Althought this is not unusal, what is Unusual is that some have reported this jumping from Twitter to Facebook.

Juste.Ru seems to have been designed for both platforms and someone must of been logged into both to make this happen.   If you’ve gotten this message on Facebook you should just delete it and tell the person who sent it they need to do a system check.   Also if you have been hit by this virus, first thing to do is clean your system before you do anything else.   Then reset your password, this way you won’t be giving the virus access to the new password.

5 ways to get more followers in Twitter

By Paul | May 27, 2009

I’ve been doing something different in Twitter and I would like to talk about it.   I have learned so much today it and yet after the end of the day I’ve gotten even more followers.   I’ve gained over 123 so far today alone and I want to share with you some ways to increase your followers.

  1. Provide Great Value — This one I learned today finding some great articles and retweeting the good articles.  This is essential Twitter tactics.   If you don’t do this your just going to be keep who you have and not grow.
  2. Be Funny — Don’t be funny just to be a class clown, that will draw followers but it can also hinder your likely hood of engaging in good conversation.   Twitter is a stream of Conversations that doesn’t do well with constant funniness  and if your always being the class clown, you will have a hard time keeping a conversation.   Now that being said it doesn’t mean to not be funny but to be funny in your way.  People like to laugh people are drawn to people who want to communicate about the topics at hand.

Twitter and the Acai Berry Spammers

By Paul | May 24, 2009

Well According to Sopho’s There seems to have been some hacking going on for the Acai Berry spam. Some of the messages were:

acaiberrytwitterspam1It seems to be a random http://random.CN domain but we’ve talked about this in the past.  Sopho’s isn’t sure how this happen but I have a suspicion that it was a Phishing attack done on the facebook users recent weeks that have the hackers going to other social sites and trying those passwords.

Although I agree with Sopho’s on making sure not to have a dictionary word, I also think users should take care of all your online accounts.   As most people will become aware of is most users use only one password for all their accounts online or only have 3 different passwords for 20 different sites.  This is something that needs to change and you can do that with Roboform to keep your passwords safe and also to make sure they can’t guessed.

If you have been compromised on t witter and only use one password, you can bet all you other accounts have been compromised as well.  You should change your passwords as soon as possible.   You should also make sure in the future not to be tricked into giving out your password which is called Phishing, in which a site with a different url is made to look like Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace log in page.

Getting Twitter on your Cricket QA30 Hint Phone!!

By Paul | May 24, 2009

So you want to use Twitter with Cricket Phones. I have found a few ways to post to Twitter with http://Identi.ca . I can post to twitter with emails going to Identi.ca.  They give you a unique email address that you can use to post and You can receive twitter like sms through them.  They do have an options for Cricket but again you would have to use email to post but you can receive through text messaging without a problem.

This Phone comes with it’s own Email application so you would just use the phone to do the emailing. I’ve not gotten this phone just yet because Cricket won’t let me test it out but I am going to assume that with this phone having email capabilities, you can get around the twitter problem very easily.  You can use Twittermail to send and receive through your email application.   You can receive replies to your email address almost instantly.

Unlike Identi.ca, you can only send to Twitter but can’t receive any updates on twitter.   You could however start using Identi.ca exclusively but that would be torture because most of your friends are using Twitter. I wish Cricket would let me test this phone out and find out other secrets for my users.

Upgrading to Twitter Pro — ztrx.net Phishing attempt in the wild!!

By Paul | May 23, 2009

I just got this alert from a friend of mine and I thought I would share it with you.  It looks like there is a new phishing attempt going on with websites try fool it’s users into going http://ztrx.net and From the looks of it. It looks like this:

twitterprophish1

The message some users got were:

Upgrade to Twitter Pro – Visit http://bit.ly/[CENSORED] to upgrade your account

It seems that if you get this message on your account you should report it to @Spam and let them know. If you happen to get given out your password it is strongly recommended that you reset your password to prevent any further unauthorize access to your accounts. You should change your password as soon as possible. This is the first attempt they have tried this this weekend so be on the look out for more phishing attempts.

New Spam Campaign for Cooltweeting.com

By Paul | May 23, 2009

I got an Email that shows that people are giving out there twitter accounts password for a Free Mac book air. I did a Search for cooltweeting.com and well you take a look.

twitterspam-cooltweetingcom2

The Site Cooltweeting.com looks to be a phishing for your information by wanting you to do this:

twitterspam-cooltweetingcom3

As you can see this looks pretty simple and some users would think this is true. I do wonder how I am going to receive email from them if they don’t have my email in the first place? You have to read the fine print on this one here I will make it bigger:

You agree to receive emails from trusted 3rd parties containing special offers and promotional emails.

Facebook and Twitter Phishing going on today!

By Paul | May 21, 2009

According to Techcrunch we have one phishing site ground around peoples inboxes on facebook with it say “Check areps.at”.  You go to the site and you will think your at the facebook login but your not.  I wouldn’t suggest going to any of these sites, it has been reported by Phishtank.

Some of the sites to avoid today are : “nutpic.at, bests.at, areps.at, kirgo.at” each site will make you think your at facebook but this is what most will call a Phishing scam.  Some other things to avoid are some Twitter phshing going on today as well.

According to Trend Micro there is one where the url looks like it is a twitter url but isn’t (tvviter[dot]com).  The site is what people would call a typosquatting site.   This makes people think they are on twitter but aren’t.   If you go to these to sites and have given out your passowrd, it is strongly recommended that your reset them:

Facebook password reset page

Twitter password Reset Page

If you would like to know more about what phsihing is please check out my blog for more information.  Don’t forget to check out the forums for more information on this or just to talk about anything on your mind.

You’ve got hacked thanks to Twitter : Don’t “email me at”

By Paul | May 17, 2009

I was reading a blog post about Spammers Harvesting Sorrow From Twitter.

Something came to my mind, so I did a little research and a lot of thinking and it finally came to me. It is easy for someone to find your email and use it for there own means. There are several different scenarios I can come up with:

  • Impersonating someone you know –  It is quite simple to find out who we know and who we follow.  You can always find someone who you don’t know the email address of and make it seem like your them to get even more information from the person.
  • Receiving Viruses, Trojans, or worms –   Although if you have a good Anti-virus this one won’t be getting to you but  according to ESET : 10 percent of computer users didn’t know if they had anti-virusware installed. This means that there are going to be some success for malware authors to send out a virus to every who twitters there email address and still have success.

When not to post #twitterpornnames

By Paul | May 12, 2009

twitterpornname-security1

I’ve heard others call this a scam:
twitterpornname-security2

Now Although I know PCworld has made everyone paranoid that this is a scam.  I want to remind people that it was probably just a for fun.   According to Graham Cluely’s blog, He points out why you shouldn’t tell people the important information.

I see no evidence this was done to gather your information but Pcworld has sent out the warnings and made people think this was a scam, or a Phishing attack.  Although this could be used to get the information needed for your Gmail or other accounts.

I do recommend deleting those tweets and reminding people that you are the only ones that can prevent identity theft.  Trend Micro talks about this very detail about the subject but again they don’t think this was conceived as a phishing attempt.   I’ll let you decide but remember tweeting that it is a scam will only keep it on the trends, your best advice is just go on with your life and tell everyone to delete that sensitive information.

Identi.ca here I come!!

By Paul | May 11, 2009

identicabegin

With Twitter being really Challenging I have switched from Twitter to my new Micro-blogging home.  Identi.ca, and Have also changed my updates to go to my Ident.ca profile and no more Twitter.  Thanks to some searching around for a Wordpress plugin to go to the Identi.ca Server, It will post automatically.

I encourage all my users to switch from Twitter to Identi.ca but if you can fully switch you can still use your Twitter account with Identi.ca and have SMS with Identi.ca also.  So you can use it like you did with Twitter and still have what you like.

On a Side note, all the Cricket Phone users who want to use twitter with your phone, it looks like you can have both with Identi.ca by using Ident.ca twitter integration you can use it to send messages back and fourth on twitter.  I have interrogated Identi.ca with my Cricket phone and it works now I don’t know about Twitter because of what happened, but the identi.ca updates are coming my way.

Twitter Suspends my Account

By Paul | May 10, 2009

It seems someone got mad at Twitter or at least someone wasn’t to happy:

twittersuspend

As you can see when I log into my account this pops up.   I am sure my ratio is normal:

laforge129twitter

  • extremely imbalanced follower/following ratio
  • aggressive following (a large number of people are followed in a short amount of time)aggressive following (a large number of people are followed in a short amount of time)
  • aggressive following (a large number of people are followed in a short amount of time)
  • account contains links pointing to phishing sites, malware, or other harmful material
  • links in updates disguise the real content of a link given in a misleading or deceptive way.

Now these are the ones that I would not due and am quite confused why Twitter has suspened.  I also like how they have an outdate link to there suspended account section of explaintion on getting your account reviewed or finding out why it was suspended.  The link they send you to when the RED Stop Sign Appears is:

TweetTornado and What that means to Twitter

By Paul | May 10, 2009

I had an interesting person follow me today and I want to talk about How Twitter Needs to fix this problem:twitteruserspam

In my previous post, I talked about Twitter needing to fix spam problems and here’s why.  It’s Called Tweet Tornado and you pay $100 for this program a Month.  On the Page,  they talk about downloading this software and using it:

tweettornado1

Now as you can on there website this plainly states this is SPAM.   I wouldn’t install this software or even use it because  of the possibility of having a Virus, Trojan, or even Malware attached to the program.  I can say now that what I’ve seen of this website is that Twitter needs to come up with a way to fix this problem.  I must warn you that if you do start using this software, you might end up with not internet or even worse if Twitter decides to come after you for damages to bandwidth.   This  software violates Twitter TOS:

You must not abuse, harass, threaten, impersonate or intimidate other Twitter users

You must not modify, adapt or hack Twitter.com or modify another website so as to falsely imply that it is associated with Twitter.com .

Come on Twitter add Tweet filters — Ways to prevent twitter spam!

By Paul | May 9, 2009

So I am on twitter tonight and I find some common themes:

As you can see this is starting to get bad.   I don’t know why Twitter can’t fix this, by making filter rule that prevent new users from posting the same thing others have or even putting in some Captcha’s and Email verification.  This would stop it really quickly but I am sure I would hear from people that these wouldn’t stop them from coming.  Yes that is true but it would stop some to a lot of them from posting.   They want people to come to there site and they are abusing the Twitter.

On any given day you can search for anything with twitter and come up with some valuable information.  Now this seems to be more and more spam.   There needs to be a way for twitter to stop this but I guess they dont’ want to ruin the experience for new users.

Hothotjoboffers equals Twiitter Spam

By Paul | May 9, 2009

Saw this on the Twitscoop API and had to talk about it:
hothotjoboffersspam1

If you go to the site Hothotjoboffers.com you will be redirected to:

hothotjoboffersspam2

www.makemoneytakingsurveys.org

Now I know more about this then anyone.  I see these types of scams where you can make money by doing survey’s but there are some common princples to consider.  Although I have real doubts to this site because when you try to exist it displays:

hothotjoboffersspam3

I always wonder why spam and other sites alike try to persuade you to stay and look.  When that happens I am thinking to myself, “Yes I am sure and that little box really makes me mad”.   I assume someone bot is making the post to twitter and I wish Twitter would create a rule for this.   This would stop this type of spam from getting to us and others.   Same Text coming from newly created accounts less than a hour with let’s give it 5 max should be prevented from posting until they are verified by either email or other such ways.

Not so, Realbabesonline on Twitter! Twitter do something about this!

By Paul | May 1, 2009

I posted a blog about the NSFW spam. This happened to be coming from a domain realbabesonline.com and when you visit this site you see:

realbabes101

As you can see it will say “Hi, I am single girl living in [your Local area].”  That was the tip off, since I am on a rotating IP and visiting the site tells me that it puts in the ip location where you are.    Seems this has been created on Aug 22, 2008 and probably this started the last few weeks.  Some of the more common tweets are:

I would bet This type of spam would of been easily filtered if Twitter would just automatically suspend the account if they tweet these.    I wouldn’t want my Son or daughter to go to this site.   No age protection or anything.   This looks to be a site that has put up a pic of a girl.

Twitter would you please do something about these tweets, anyone can find them if they search for NSFW.   They are constantly being tweeted on new accounts.

Twitter Spam attempt: “See the NSFW pics twitter deleted from my profile here”

By Paul | May 1, 2009

Looks like this might have been a improper adult content or maybe a Malware attack:
nsfwspam1

If people are wonder what NSFW means:

Not suitable/safe for work (NSFW), not work-suitable/safe (NWS), or not school-suitable (NSS) is Internet slang or shorthand. Typically, the NSFW tag is used in E-mail, movies (such as on Youtube) and on interactive discussion areas (such as internet forums, blogs and community websites) to mark URLs or hyperlinks which may be sexually explicit or include audio containing profanity, helping the reader avoid potentially objectionable content.
[via Wikipedia]

It looks like this was done with using Tinyurl and has been flagged for either Spam, Fraud, Malware, or Any other use that is illegal. I am glad Tinyurl did catch this and stop it. If you see something that say NSFW in your twitter account your best bet is to delete it and go on with your life. I am sure it is something your should not go to probably because it was a malicious way to get your to go to the link. If you want to preview the urls that are used by Tinyurl, just visit the preview feature. If anyone else hears of some kind of Twitter attempt let me know and I’ll blog about it. This would be the best time to install Free Anti-virus and Free Firewalls to help prevent from getting Viruses or Malware.

Hijacked Accounts being used to spam

By Paul | Apr 29, 2009

I just read this from Security Fix and Thought I should talk about it some to better help people fix this:

Dear Friend,

New shopping new life!

How are u doing these days?Yesterday I found a web of a large trading company from china, which is an agent of all the well-known digital product factories, and facing to both wholesalers, retailsalers, and personal customer all over the world. They export all kinds of digital products and offer most competitive and reasonable price and high quality goods for our clients,so i think we you make a big profit if we do business with them. And they promise they will provide the best after-sales-service.In my opinion we can make a trial order to test that.

Look forward to your early reply!

According to Security, they are advertising the Easylifeing.com domain and have compromised GMAIL and Yahoo Mail.  This resembles the ones that happen to some other Accounts.   Check Yahoo article and the Hotmail Article for other example of compromised accounts.

Suicide Threat Prompts Twitter users to Respond

By Paul | Apr 21, 2009

I saw this and had to talk a little about it:

suicidethreat1

As you can see people would worried about the Twitter Liquidwings, and I don’t blame them.   According to his post:

suicidethreat2

As you cans see is tweets (1,2,3,4,5,6, and 7) was posted on twitter  and people responded with the reqeust to find this person and try to help.   I hope more people do this if they find that someone is wanting to kill them or talks about killing people.

we should all be watching for that kinda of talk online and offline.   Although this isn’t really Security related this is a very important subject.

Please report any thing you think is real to @twitter And hopefully they will create an account for just that.   I would hope that people who thinking of suicide or killing will find professional help.   Although that is up to them to do ultimately.   I just have to say to the people who responded, Thank you for help this one person!! Keep it up.

Are you seeing the fail whale — Oprah to Kill Twitter!!

By Paul | Apr 16, 2009

I found Oprahs twitter account and this isn’t funny, every time I refresh her account it keeps getting bigger!!  I was going to search for her and I see this:

twiterfindpeople

According to people on twitter that she will talk about Twitter tomorrow, April 17, 2009.  So what does that mean there will be a whole influx of people joining Twitter and people following her so I would imagine tomorrow and the next few days, you will see the great white whale!!  Twitter will be sluggish and possible unresponsive the next few days also.

(USB Broadband A600 Modem card for Free after Instant online rebates and Mail in rebate Free shipping & first month free! Shop today.)

You best bet is not stress Twitter out to much but I am curious to see if this actually breaks Twitter.  Only time will tell but I am sure going to keep watch on this just because this is big news!!

*Update*
From the tweets I am seeing this all stems from:

ashtonkutcher

Just to let you know he has 977,307 as of current but that should change.  So this will be rocking Twitter tomorrow guys!!

StalkDaily.com was the culprit afterall!!

By Paul | Apr 12, 2009

In my previous post, about StalkDaily I thought they were the innocent party in all this:
stalkdaily3

Now he talks about how he did this and claims responsibility for the Twitter calamity. According to him he did this out of boredom, and needed a way to make money. I am wondering if Twitter will do some legal actions against him for the time it took to fix the problem and fact that it caused so much widespread panic for people to not trust Twitter makes me think that Twitter would have a real good case against a 17 year old who was trying to gain the system.

Then the people who have lost followers or have had problems with their twitter are going to be mad to, They were the innocent party and did not know about the Cross Site Scripting Vulnerability, although it doesn’t appear to have gotten any passwords or sensitive data.

Although It does prove a p0int that the no script addon in Firefox is looking to be more and more needed as people search through the web.

Stalkdaily worm strikes Twitter — Brings down the House!!

By Paul | Apr 11, 2009

twitter-stalkdaily

According to Techcrunch, this seems to of happened today where this worm has brought down twitter. I have been using the Twitter Client Tweetdeck and have not had any problems like they have had with this site. I wouldn’t visit the site in question because you would most likely get the worm. It seems to be a very good hack it sends out spam on your twitter account like this:

stalkdaily1

If you have been infected twitter is suggesting you password reset and requesting a new password. Some other removal information can be found here. I will update as necessary when I find out more.

*Update a Few hours*
It looks like Twitter had a Cross Site Scripting going on, and it wasn’t really Stalkdaily who did it rather someone injected code into twitter to grab peoples browser Cache. See this post for more information.

According to watch I am seeing Stalkdaily is now safe to surf to as long as you don’t click on links on twitter just yet. I have found that if you make sure you aren’t logged into twitter in your browser you are much better at preventing this type of attacks. You can see the screenshot of stalkdaily website and it looks like they are an innocent party.

The Register Goes down, People are asking is it the Conficker Worm?

By Paul | Apr 1, 2009

twitterregister1

I’ve heard stories from other Twitter Folks about it being Denial of Service attack:

twitterregister2

Now it is possible to have Conficker to all botnets to try to go to the site but I am not certian it is the Conficker.  It could be as simple as someone misconfigured a server and no one can get to it.  People who want to check out what people on twitter are saying can search for it and see for yourself.    I’ll update as needed when I find out more, but it will probably be a couple of hours before the site is back up, according to some reports.  I’ll know more later today, so keep tune.

Update at 6:30pm EST

We speculate that the source of the problem may have been a large scale Denial of Service attack against UltraDNS, or an internal operations problem. When we were able to sucessfully query UltraDNS servers, responses were slow to come back, or largely timed out. The problem began to clear itself up around 10:00 am Eastern, when we saw DNS responses returning quickly again, and our favorite sites coming back online.
