Microsoft Sans Serif,sans-serif;”>Is Google part of your you blog Body?
Having Google be part of your blog is essential to keeping people coming to your site. Google is kind, intelligent enough, forgiving, and nice to have on your site. Having Google juice helps you give your blog a chance to thrive. Making enemies is fine if you must, but don’t make enemies with Google. You need to understand that Google is right now the Alpha Dog. It can make or break your site. If you get removed from Google, guess what you will probably be removed from other search sites almost certainly because of Google.
Time is the essence of creating a good blog!
It takes time to get people to come to your blog and stay at your blog. It isn’t something that will come almost instantly. It has taken me a year now to start getting people a high volume of people coming to my site. Some people think blogging should bring people to there site almost instantly. I would say that is almost impossible unless you do some things that I will not go into but it will never keep people to come to your blog, it’s how you talk to your web users. I’ll talk more about that later. I hope this helps you figure out how to start yoru blog and understand the challenges of having a blog. If you want to comment about what I’ve said please go right ahead!!
Filling the Internet need 2/3
Comments OffHow do I get people to come to my blog?
This comes with some problems and some answers. Finding something that your passionate about is one way to get other people who are passionate about the same thing to come find your blog. The only problem is that you create a single group of people who are at your blog for a single reason. Having been doing the Hulu clues, I’ve seen that and understand that will happen. I am trying to get people to stay at my site is the hardest part of having what I call a point of entry campaign. I know most of them will see my site and go do something else. I almost expect that but I know I will keep a few people who like what they see and want to keep seeing this type of stuff. I never expect to keep everyone who comes to my blog. I expect I’ll probably keep around 10% or so from just doing the point of entry campaign.

Apple Installs software without your Knowledge!
Comments OffApple decides to install mobile Me, without permission!!
The latest update to Itunes 7.7.0.43 also installs this little program into the preference control panel of your Vista Premium operating system. It has me irritated by it. I didn’t ask about this or want this to be in the installed. So what does this mean?
Apple expects everyone to pay 99$/Year for this service!
Yes that’s right. If you use Itunes, Apple expects you to have an IPOD or a mac. That also makes me mad. I don’t want that on my system. I am sure you also would like to get rid of that too, so here is how!!
Uninstall Apple Mobile Devices from your add/remove programs section.
[Classic View] Start > Control Panel > Program & Features> Find Apple Mobile Devices and Click Uninstall
[or]
Start > Control Panel > Uninstall programs > Find Apple Mobile Devices and Click Uninstall
After you uninstall the program just refresh your control panel screen by pressing F5 or right click and click refresh. It should disappear.
Should Apple be allowed to install that without permission?
Adobe Flash tips and Tricks!
Comments OffHaving been using Hulu for the last few months, I’ve had to tweak the Flash Player and I’d thought I share some tips to get your movies and shows to run smoother on some systems. I will say this, it is not some times the system but the connection to the Internet. Bandwitdth, for some shows are sometimes the hardest part of getting to watch the show.
From time to time, Check for updates:
Having updates will sometimes resolve the most common issues with the Flash player. I’ve had that happen in the past, a certain version would not work right with my system. After updating on those occasions, I’d be ready go!! So here’s the website to go to download and install the latest version:
Download and Install Adobe Player
Why should I have to check it from time to time?
Adobe seems to not want to tell you if you have the lastest version. So I’ve got a schedule to check it ever month and see if I have the latest version. How can you figure that out? By downloading and installing. If you’ve got the current version then you do not have to install it again!!
Does your DNS still have flaws?
Comments OffLate the week, I’ve had some concern with the DNS flaws with my ISP. So I’ve change to another DNS. So I went and did a test at:
Doxpara
So what does this mean when it says I might be at risk?
Very simple, your DNS provider is not randomizing the ports. I’ll get to that in a bit.
What is DNS?
The DNS is like a big Phonebook to where you tell it who you want to call, in this case go, and it finds the numbers and takes you there. It’s like telling a cab driver where you want to visit, just like telling the cab driver to come to my site. When you enter http://www.tech-linkblog.com into your browser, your telling DNS to go fetch the ip and direct your connection to this site.
So how can I fix this flaw?
Simple, You will need to direct yourself to OpenDNS. Has Fixed the flaw to help protect you. How do you use it? You will tell your system to direct all the DNS queries through that then your ISP DNS.
How to put Linux on a Vista Machine!
Comments OffPutting Linux on a Vista machine isn’t hard, actually the program I like to use to do it is:
So why use it for Vista? Here’s the answer. When you use it for Vista you don’t have to have a seperate partition.
As you can see you put it on one drives in a directory. It installes it without having to have a Linux partition. It will download the ones you want:
As you can see you can install 4 different Ubuntu Distro’s without having to have a linux partition. I’ve heard some people say, that you actually cheating Linux but I say it’s not cheating, it’s a necessary. I have to be able to use Linux from time to time because of people use it from time to time!! It does not matter the how much you use it, it is the essence of using it.
Although this isn’t only a Vista program it actually works on Windows XP, 98, and 2000. So go check this little program out. Tell me what you think of it, I actually like this little program.
10 ways to keep your wireless router secure!!
Comments OffI have been doing quite a few router reworks. I’ve got a wireless G router from my DSL provider and Have had problems with someone in my neighborhood trying to get onto my router. They were trying everything. I wanted to give you some suggestions that would help you keep your secure and have some piece of mind!!
- Turn off Signal Identification (What your router name is)- By turning of the signal so no one can see the broadcast name will greatly make it harder for anyone to get onto your router.
- Change your router identification – Creating a unique router identification will also make it harder for anyone to guess router identification. Keep the identification something that is unidentifiable to the location where you live.
- USE WPA and not WEP – WEP has been cracked so if at all possible use WPA encryption and that too will make it harder for an unwanted guest.
- Use a Random Password Generator (Roboform an generate secure random passwords) ["Use one these promo codes to get it cheaper"] – By using a random password you prevent hackers from guessing the Network password of your WPA key.

Jason Calacanis’ First New Email Post.
He retires from blogging and begins bulk emailing? Is fark? I think not, in his first email. He talks about how bloggers over reacts with blogs.
Most of the time you get the people who really love to blog, and those who try to make money. It comes with the territories, but it isn’t something that we do for ourselves. It’s something that we do for our readers. So let’s get down to the business at hand.
Is blogging dead?
————————-
Yes, it is. Officially.Actually, I’ve been thinking about this question and while blogging is
clearly booming, there has been a deep qualitative change in the
nature of the ’sphere. There are so many folks involved in blogging to
today, and it’s moving at a much quicker pace thanks to “social
accelerants” like TechMeme, digg, Friendfeed and Twitter. Folks are so
desperate to be heard–and we all want to be heard that’s why we
blog–that the effort put into being heard has eclipsed the actual
hearing.[Via TechCruch]
Get over it, You’ve got no Privacy on the net!!
Comments OffI’ve been talking to my friends at work and in other places, they’ve all asked the same question from time to time. “Is privacy on the internet a possibility?” and in short my answer is “No, you’ve got no privacy on the Internet!“ This is what I like to refer to as people wanting privacy to be on the internet. Let’s face it folks, there is no privacy on the internet. People are worried about Youtube debacle and I understand! In today’s society and time there is no privacy. If let’s say you’ve come to my site. What would I find out you?
- Your IP
- What you searched for in Google, Yahoo, AOL, to get to my site!
- Type of Operating System (Windows, Linux, or Macintosh)
- Where you just came from, unless you’ve chosen to come to my site directly
- You screen resolution
- You browser your using!
I don’t tell you this to make you not want to visit my site. This type of stuff is always going to be recorded by almost 95% websites you visit. It’s always going to be an unspoken understanding. I have to keep up to date on what happens on my site. It’s just normal to get the information and be able to see where everyone is coming from.

Getting the most out of podcasts!!
Comments OffSo you want to listen to several podcast a day and you don’t know how to do it. I’ve had so many people ask me how do I listen to 10 to 15 Podcasts a day. My rule of thumb on this is simple, look at what you throught the day and figure out how you can listen to them. By doing the lawn, by doing the dishes, or cleaning the house. You can even have fun and listen to them at work. So let’s talk about what ones I like to listen to. This is kinda hard because I’ve get 2 or three daily Tech Cruft which are:
- Buzz Out Loud Rating:

- The Gillmor Gang Rating:

- Computer America [rating 3.5/5]
What podcasts do I listen to more than once? Here are some interesting the ones I like and Have really cool and great content.
- Caffination Podcast Rating:

- Geek News Central Rating:

These are the ones that podcast more than once a week. They do it twice a week. There is one that does podcast for several areas. That one I like to listen to get my meat and get all the technology woes.

The Levelator — Now onto podcasting!!
Comments OffI found this great program out. it’s called the Levelator. It shows to me that it can be done with making a podcast viable. I am thinking of doing a podcast and would love to here what people want to hear or you could help me come up with a name. Throw those names out and let me know what you want the podcast to be called. I’d love to hear what people want out of the next podcast. Your oppinions count. If you don’t suggest anything, I’ll be forced to come to up with me myself.

As you can see I’ve got Several people here who you don’t think would reply or even think about doing this. I have a plan. I want these people to tell their story about this memo. I challenge them to actually post their responses on their blog or Podcast. I want to hear your story about the old days. I want to find out all about what people think or did to get into the IT profession!! I have this grand Idea to hear from the people and find out their story. That is why if you do talk about the memo link back to me so I’ll know.
Calling all Geeks: Keith’s SysAdmin Meme
In response to the Mind Of Root Podcast, I’ve decided to add my own comments. I think Keith had a brilliant idea and wanted to add my answers to this. So Here goes:
How old were you when you started using computers?
I was around 9 or 10 when I started using a TI-994A!
As you can see this was very fun to use because of the fact that you had to use cartridges to play games on. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like some of the programs in basic and Basica before Dos came around. I learned so much from the system. You could create the complex programs and save them to a tape. It was before the 3 1/2 floppy. It was hard work to make these programs but I loved every part of it.
What was your first machine?
This goes back to the first question. My first Machine was the Ti-994a. You could have game cartridges and such, I loved that little machine. I would come home from school and program , play with the System or taking it apart. I enjoyed it so much I still like to use my basic emulation to program!! I’ve got so many fond memories of the system and to this day will always enjoy it.
Hulu throws out family values!!
Comments OffSo here is why I say they have thrown family values out of the window. They seem to want to show clips and movies about Sex. Some talking about pregnancy and other just about how they do it. They also seem to have full movies about drugs and sex!!
National Lampoon’s
Spring Break
One of the ones I am talking about is National Lampoons which talks about the usual spring break and 18 year olds. I am guessing they are trying to get people to google the word sex and movies to get people to come to Hulu.
Totally Baked
Now about this little movie, this one is so stupid, I wouldn’t even rent it. It however has been rated “R” and talks about drugs and some sexual scenes. I also think they are doing this to get people to come to there sites. I however don’t think this is totally acceptable, they shouldn’t have to do this.
Can You Run it — I can!!
Comments Off
So you want to be able to play a game? You don’t know if your current system can play the game? Well this little website Can You Run it
has the ability to show you in details of what does and what doesn’t work. It will recommend software or hardware that can be upgraded to allow you to play your game. It allows you to see where you can improve or where you Can Run it!
! I’ve always have a question of what will run and what won’t. With this website, I know what will run and what won’t on my current system. If I need to upgrade, I know what needs to be upgraded and what will work. I have this site bookmarked for just that. If I have an inclination of wanting to buy a game. This is the first place I go for just that. I don’t want to buy a game a have to upgrade the whole system just to play a 40$ game. I also like to know when my system is too old for current games.
Can you Run it
— I can!!
Wolfenstein:Enemy Territories and Vista saying it Stops responding.
Comments OffFor those of you who use Vista here are some easy steps to take to prevent Vista saying the program stops responding:
Re-install vista
Install all necessary windows programs. (FIREWALL, Anti-virus, and anything else that is security related!!)
Download Decrapifier
Download Enemy Territory
Run the setup program of Enemy territory as Admin by:
Right click on wolfet.exe and select run as administrator
install the program
download patch 2.60(not 2.60b)
Run the patch same way as wolfet.exe as ADMIN.
After that is patched.
Run the ET.exe as Admin (Right click) and your should be able to play for hours on end without having Vista saying it stopped responding. I’ve installed it and run it for a while without any problems. Try that out and let me know if it works for you!!
Customize Vista Open/Save Shortcuts
Comments Off
- Open a dialog box (either a Save As or Open dialog will work).
- Right click on some white space in the locations on the left pane and select Open Favorite Links Folder. The folder: “C:\Users\Your Name\Links” should open.
- Add or remove shortcuts as needed.
- Your changes should take effect immediately.
Once you take a few minutes to configure your locations, this trick should save you quite a bit of time.
Thought people would like this little tip that I found on PcMech
and I wanted to let people know. What do you think?
Vista Friendly Programs
Comments OffSo I’ve had some good programs that seem to be working with vista. I figured I’d talk about some of the programs that seem to work well with my copy of Vista. Although if you want to use the programs like I do, please install Vista Sp1
before you try these programs. I’ve got Sp1 installed in this system and have had no problems with the Service Pack or these programs.
RoboForm

So I’ve had problems Keepass and Windows Vista Prem. I’ve found this little program that actually does what Keepass does without the trouble of how to install it. I like the management and how well it intergrated into Vista and Firefox. It is also free. Go check it out.
which works well with Vista also.FeedDemon

This is a great little RSS reader that works well and I’ve had no major problems with this little reader. This is also a free reader to install and use. It’s brought to you by Newsgator
.
